nintendo still makes these for a reason, and that reason is that in addition to being one of the best controllers ever designed it's also the only usable controller for most 3D games.
the classic controller is well suited to 2D and the wiimote works well for motion enabled games, but the gamecube pad is the only one that makes sense for the N64 and modern games with conventional controls... so if you want to play a variety of games comfortably, you unfortunately have to buy all three.
luckily this controller is well worth the cost. the build quality is just as high (if not slightly better) than the originals; the difference is that the cord is thicker and several feet longer so that you can play without pulling the console over, and both the cord and controller are colored to match the wii. the white finish looks really attractive in person; the original controllers with black cables will look ugly in comparison.
but let it be known that this controller does not work well for everything; SNES titles and earlier can be awkward or unplayable using the gamecube button layout. again, your best bet for those is the classic controller pro. this controller is suited to N64 games, gamecube games (obviously), and wii games like mariokart that don't lose anything by ditching motion controls, so be aware of what's in your library before you decide.
